Kyiv, August 10: At least five civilians were killed on Sunday in the latest round of Russian shelling and drone attacks in Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region.

According to Ukraine’s National Police, three people were killed and one injured in Zaporizhzhia, while two others died in the eastern Donetsk region. In Odesa, three beachgoers lost their lives after triggering a mine in a restricted area planted to deter a potential Russian naval attack.

Ukraine’s military claimed it carried out a drone strike on a major oil refinery in Saratov, nearly 1,000 kilometer’s from the battlefront. Saratov Governor Roman Busargin confirmed damage to an industrial site and reported one death in the attack.

Meanwhile, one woman was killed in Russia’s Belgorod region due to Ukrainian fire. Kyiv continues to target Russia’s oil and gas infrastructure in an attempt to disrupt war funding.

Ukrainian forces also announced the liberation of Bezsalivka village in the Sumy region from Russian control. The Russian offensive remains focused on eastern Ukraine, where Moscow has made notable gains in recent months.

Despite escalating hostilities, Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump are set to meet in Alaska on Friday to discuss potential solutions to the conflict — a move criticized by Kyiv and European leaders for excluding Ukraine from the talks.
