ISLAMABAD – Foreign ministers from Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan are set to meet in Kabul on August 20 for high-level trilateral discussions, diplomatic sources confirmed on Thursday.

The talks will bring together Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

According to sources, the agenda will focus on counterterrorism cooperation, the expansion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Afghanistan, and broader regional stability.

Earlier this month, Muttaqi had been scheduled to visit Pakistan on August 5, but the trip was called off. At the time, both Islamabad and Kabul cited “technical reasons.” However, it later emerged that the UN Security Council did not grant travel permission, as Muttaqi remains on the UN sanctions list of designated Taliban members.

Following the Kabul talks, Wang Yi is expected to travel to Pakistan on August 21 for further bilateral discussions, officials said.
