Islamabad : The federal government is preparing a major relief package for flood-hit communities, with detailed proposals now on the table. According to Express News, the plan includes significant concessions in electricity bills and a dedicated package for farmers who suffered crop and livestock losses.

Sources revealed that the government is considering removing several charges from electricity bills for flood-affected households. Proposals under review include the elimination of General Sales Tax (GST), Fuel Cost (FC) surcharge, and fixed charges. In addition, scrapping GST and excise duty on fuel price adjustments has also been suggested. Authorities are further weighing the possibility of waiving income tax, additional taxes, and retailer sales tax on power bills in affected areas.

Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain confirmed that all taxes on electricity bills in flood-hit regions will be immediately waived. “The federal government will provide relief in power bills, while provincial governments will exempt land revenue taxes,” he said. The minister added that authorities would also address cases of additional bills issued, which were printed before the tax relief decision.

Speaking about agricultural losses, Hussain said the government has finalized plans to introduce a farmer compensation package. The package will be announced after surveys of the affected districts are completed within the next 7 to 10 days. Initial data indicates that 1–3% of crops nationwide have been damaged by flooding, with rice fields suffering the most.
