Lahore — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has claimed that crime rates have dropped to “zero” in several districts of the province, crediting the police and the Crime Control Department (CCD) for their performance.

Speaking at the passing-out parade of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) in Lahore, she said: “There were districts where up to 100 crimes were reported daily, and nowadays go by without a single case. People tell us they feel safe leaving their homes now.”

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that crimes against women would not be tolerated, declaring that anyone violating women’s dignity would face strict consequences. She also announced new legislation against land grabbers, under which special courts will deliver verdicts within 90 days, with punishments of up to 10 years in prison.

Addressing newly trained officers, she urged them to pledge a corruption-free service. “There is no blessing in bribe money,” she said. “Even if hard-earned income is modest, it carries the blessing of God.”

The chief minister described PERA as a model of good governance, saying it had played a key role in tackling encroachments and hoarding. She cited the recent stabilization of wheat and flour prices as a result of timely government action.

Maryam Nawaz also praised PERA personnel for their efforts during floods, when they assisted in evacuations and relief work, calling it a testament to Punjab’s commitment to serving its people.
