Carlos Alcaraz showed his fighting spirit in Tokyo on Saturday, coming from a set down to defeat Casper Ruud and book his spot in the Japan Open final. The 21-year-old Spaniard won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, extending his remarkable season and drawing comparisons with his idol Rafael Nadal.

This victory means Alcaraz has now reached 10 finals in 2024, the same number Nadal achieved back in 2017. He also set a new personal record with 66 wins this season, proving why he’s considered one of the brightest stars in world tennis.

The semifinal wasn’t easy. Ruud, who looked sharp in the first set, had Alcaraz on the ropes. But the young Spaniard turned the match around with aggressive shot-making and powerful returns, showing resilience that reminded many of Nadal in his prime.

Speaking after the match, Alcaraz said, “Following his steps in making 10 finals in a season is something great.” He admitted that physically he’s not at his best due to an ankle issue but added, “I’ll try my best. With my team’s help, I’ll be ready.”

In Sunday’s final, Alcaraz will face Taylor Fritz, the American who recently beat him at the Laver Cup. It promises to be a high-voltage clash as Alcaraz looks for his 7th title of the year.

For fans, this tournament is more than just another win. It shows Alcaraz’s hunger, determination, and ability to fight back under pressure — qualities that made Nadal a legend, and now define Alcaraz’s own journey.
