The much-anticipated and controversial Pakistani reality show Lazawal Ishq has officially premiered on YouTube, sparking intense backlash and widespread buzz. Despite the criticism on social media, the show has garnered attention for introducing a bold new format to Pakistani screens.

Set in a grand mansion in Turkey, the show features a picturesque backdrop with a shimmering pool and an extravagant setting. It blends elements of reality TV and matchmaking, focusing on emotional connections and relationship compatibility among young adults. The show’s format includes glamorous first impressions, partner selection, and dramatic interactions.

Hosted by popular actress Ayesha Omar, who appeared in a striking red gown for the first episode, Lazawal Ishq features ten contestants: five girls Jannat, Urooj, Laiba, Batool, and Fatima and five boys Hamza, Sheeraz, Fahad, Maaz, and Junaid. Pairings were made based on mutual preferences after the boys entered.

During the episode, Urooj made it clear that she was looking for a real connection and potentially a life partner, aligning with the show’s core concept. Ayesha Omar shared a clip on Instagram, revealing that her mother appreciated the show’s unique premise. “Did my mum like the first episode? BILKULLLLLL!” she wrote, adding that her mother found it insightful and healthy, expressing excitement about following the show.

While the premiere was met with enthusiasm from some, others were critical of the show’s format. From the moment the promo dropped, the show has been labeled “un-Islamic” and a copy of Western dating shows, with hashtags like #BoycottLazawalIshq and #BoycottAyeshaOmar trending shortly after the premiere.
