Australia Thrash New Zealand in First T20I

Australia flexed their batting firepower in Wellington, crushing New Zealand by six wickets in the opening T20I of the three-match series. Chasing 181, the visitors made light work of the target, romping home with 21 balls to spare.

Skipper Mitchell Marsh was in devastating touch, blasting 85 off 43 balls with nine fours and five sixes. His aggressive strokeplay tore into the Kiwi bowlers and silenced the home crowd early. Partner Travis Head (31 off 18) added fuel to the fire, ensuring Australia’s chase never lost momentum.

Later contributions from Matt Short (29 off 20) and Josh Inglis (22)* kept the pressure firmly on New Zealand, as Australia wrapped up the game at 185 for 4 in just 16.3 overs.

The match wasn’t short of individual brilliance from the hosts. Tim Robinson, playing just his third T20I, hammered a sensational 106 not out from 66 balls, his maiden international century.

Coming in after New Zealand’s horror start of 3 for 6, Robinson rebuilt the innings with Daryl Mitchell (37), adding 92 for the fourth wicket. His knock powered New Zealand to 180 for 5, a total that looked competitive at halfway but ultimately proved inadequate.

NZ Collapse: The Black Caps’ top order folded under pressure, losing three wickets in the opening two overs.

Australia’s Aggression: Marsh’s blitz meant the chase was virtually done by the 10th over.

Series Lead: Australia go 1-0 up in the three-match series, with momentum firmly on their side.

This emphatic win highlighted Australia’s depth and intent ahead of a packed international season. For New Zealand, Robinson’s century was a silver lining, but the team will need sharper bowling and a stronger top order to keep the series alive.
