A woman from Scotland has embraced Islam after being deeply inspired by the popular Turkish historical drama Kuruluş Osman.
Julieta Lorena Martinez, a Scottish national, shared that her journey toward Islam began during the COVID-19 pandemic when she started watching Turkish series such as Diriliş: Ertuğrul and Kuruluş Osman. What began as entertainment soon turned into a profound spiritual experience that transformed her outlook on life.
Julieta said that the noble characters and Islamic values portrayed in these dramas drew her closer to Turkish history and the faith itself. Motivated by curiosity, she began reading Islamic books and, eventually, the Qur’an. Through continuous study and reflection over two years, she found peace and clarity that she said she had never experienced before.
“I found the peace I was searching for,” Julieta stated. “The Qur’an gave me a sense of calm and purpose I could not find anywhere else. It helped me discover my true self.”
According to the Turkish production company behind Kuruluş Osman, Julieta not only embraced Turkish culture but also made a sincere effort to understand Islamic teachings. Her spiritual journey ultimately led her to recite the Shahada — the Islamic declaration of faith — and formally enter Islam.
