Punjab Merges First-Term Exams with Mid-Terms After Flood-Related Delays

The Punjab School Education Department has announced that over 10 million students from 38,000 government schools will not take their first-term examinations this year. Instead, the exams will be merged with mid-term assessments scheduled for the first week of December.

Officials said the decision was made after the original exam schedule was disrupted by prolonged school closures caused by floods and delayed reopenings in several districts. The first-term exams were initially planned to start on August 15.

Parents have expressed concern over the delay, noting that timely examinations help students stay focused and manage their academic workload effectively. “When exams are held according to schedule, children don’t feel pressured. But delays create frustration and disappointment among them,” one parent remarked.

The department confirmed that all first-term evaluations will now be conducted alongside mid-term exams in December, ensuring no loss in academic assessment despite the schedule change.
