Akshay Kumar Moves to Court Over Deepfake AI Videos

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has approached the Mumbai High Court to seek legal protection against the unauthorized use of his likeness, voice, and image.

According to Indian media reports, the case comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of AI-generated deepfake content, which not only damages the reputation of actors but can also have serious consequences for the public.

Akshay’s lawyer, senior advocate Birendra Saraf, said that such content is spreading so rapidly on social media that tracking every instance has become nearly impossible. He added that issuing clarifications before harm occurs is challenging, posing risks to the public, as creators of such content can attribute any statement to actors.

The lawyer cited specific incidents, including a fake film trailer in March 2025 that portrayed Akshay as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The trailer received over 2 million views before it was removed.

In another video, Akshay was shown making controversial remarks about Maharishi Valmiki, sparking protests in several regions, though the video was entirely a deepfake. AI platforms now offer tools like “AI Akshay Kumar Text-to-Voice,” allowing anyone to generate speeches in the actor’s real voice from any text.

The lawsuit has been filed against social media platforms, websites, and unknown individuals to prevent the misuse of Akshay Kumar’s name, image, and style.

Earlier, Bollywood personalities including Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Karan Johar, Asha Bhosle, Sunil Shetty, and others have also secured legal protection against deepfake content.
