The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved the withdrawal of all cases linked to the May 9 incidents, marking a significant political and legal development in the province. The cabinet also agreed to set up a special committee to investigate the events surrounding that day.

Advocate General KP, Shah Faisal Utmanzai, confirmed that the provincial cabinet has formally approved the decision to end proceedings in 51 cases. Following the cabinet’s authorization, the state will withdraw from these cases.

He added that approval has also been granted for establishing an inquiry committee to review the circumstances and law-and-order situation of May 9. According to him, the Chief Minister specially invited him to the meeting for legal input.

Government sources say the Advocate General’s office has already submitted recommendations to withdraw all 51 cases. Many PTI lawmakers and workers are named in the May 9 and 10 FIRs, and there were concerns that convictions could result in the disqualification of elected members.

The cabinet’s move is being viewed as an attempt to ease political tensions and prevent further legal complications for public representatives.
