Daily allowance slashed to 11,000 instead of 30,000 hockey players upset, may skip Pro League

Pakistan’s senior hockey players are reportedly unhappy over a reduction in their daily allowance, raising concerns that they may pull out of the upcoming Pro League phase.

Players traveling to Argentina were expecting a daily allowance of 30,000 rupees, but were instead issued only 11,000 rupees per day.

According to sources, players have informed both team management and the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) about their reservations.

The national side is scheduled to travel to Australia in February for the second leg of the Pro League, but the cut in daily allowances has put their participation in doubt.

Players say that allowances are already hard to receive, and now being given less than half of the approved amount has further frustrated them.

Why was the allowance reduced?

PHF has set a daily allowance of 30,000 rupees for foreign tours. However, the expenses of the Pro League campaign are being covered by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), whose policy allows only 40 USD per day—roughly 11,000 rupees—for players during overseas tours.

PSB states it has already paid PHF 168,950 rupees per player for a 15-day tour.

In contrast, players argue that based on PHF’s approved rate of 30,000 rupees per day, they should receive 449,648 rupees for 15 days.

PSB maintains that if PHF wants to pay players 30,000 rupees daily, it is free to do so from its own funds—PSB has not stopped or restricted them in any way.
