The peaceful use of nuclear technology in Pakistan has been acknowledged by the International Atomic Energy Agency. From Vienna, Austria, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi issued a special congratulatory message and assured full cooperation.
In his message, the IAEA Director General said that the role of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in the fight against cancer is commendable. He stated that more than 100,000 people die from cancer every year in Pakistan, and to address this serious issue, PAEC has established 21 cancer hospitals across the country. He added that a professional team of cancer specialists has been developed, which is truly praiseworthy.
The IAEA Director General termed the formal inauguration of the first CyberKnife facility in Pakistan’s public sector at NORI Hospital Islamabad as a matter of pride and said that NORI Hospital Islamabad’s partnership as an IAEA Rays of Hope Anchor Centre is of key importance. He also congratulated the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission on the establishment of the Kashmir Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiotherapy in Azad Kashmir.
