A child was killed and four members of a family were injured after a large plastic balloon-shaped water storage tank belonging to a private water supply company burst near Jatak Stop in Quetta.
According to local residents, the tank, which had a storage capacity of approximately 50,000 gallons, suddenly ruptured, causing a massive flow of water to enter a nearby house. The sudden surge resulted in severe structural damage to the building.
Two rooms of the six-room house collapsed completely, while the remaining rooms were partially damaged. The outer boundary wall of the house also fell due to the force of the water.
The injured include a woman and two children from the same family, according to relatives. Rescue teams shifted the injured to a nearby hospital, while the deceased child’s body was handed over to the family after necessary formalities.
Residents of the area alleged that the private water supply operator was filling the plastic tank throughout the night using illegal methods. They claimed that electricity was being stolen from a nearby transformer to operate a tube well.
Locals further stated that similar incidents had occurred in the past and complaints were lodged, but no action was taken by the authorities.
The affected family and area residents have appealed to the Chief Minister of Balochistan to take immediate notice of the incident and initiate action against those responsible.
