In India, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration has issued orders for the immediate ban on the use of Almont Kid syrup after it was declared toxic due to contamination with ethylene glycol.
According to Indian media reports, a warning was issued by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization based in Kolkata, after which the Telangana Drugs Control Administration took immediate action and issued an alert notice.
Reports said the health department has clearly instructed that if anyone possesses Almont Kid syrup, its use and sale should be stopped immediately. Since the medicine is used for children, parents and pharmacists have been urged to exercise special caution.
The department clarified that if the syrup is in anyone’s possession, its use should be discontinued immediately and the nearest drugs control authority should be informed without delay.
Instructions have been issued to drug inspectors and assistant directors across the state to immediately seize the available stock of the specific batch and ensure that retailers, traders, distributors, and hospitals do not distribute or sell it under any circumstances.
