ISLAMABAD: Millions of mourners across Pakistan observed Ashura, marking the 10th of Muharram, with deep religious devotion and solemnity under comprehensive security arrangements implemented by federal and provincial authorities.

Religious processions and majalis (gatherings) were held in major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, and numerous other towns. Participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala while standing for truth, justice, and righteousness.

To ensure public safety, authorities deployed thousands of police personnel, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies along procession routes. Surveillance cameras, drone monitoring, walkthrough gates, and strict entry checks were put in place, while traffic plans were introduced to facilitate commuters and avoid congestion.

Mobile phone services were temporarily suspended in selected areas, and emergency response teams, rescue services, and medical camps remained on high alert throughout the day. District administrations coordinated closely with religious organizers to ensure peaceful observance of Ashura.

Government officials commended the cooperation of citizens, volunteers, and religious scholars in maintaining law and order. Security agencies reported that Ashura processions concluded peacefully in most parts of the country under the enhanced security measures.

Ashura is observed annually by Muslims around the world to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose sacrifice at Karbala symbolizes courage, faith, and resistance against oppression.
