The World Health Organization has expressed concern over the high rate of infant mortality in Pakistan, where 675 newborns are dying every day.

‎In Pakistan, 675 newborn babies die on a daily basis, while 56 out of every 1,000 children under the age of five die due to health-related issues. In addition, more than 190,000 stillbirths are recorded annually in the country. The World Health Organization and health experts have described the situation as alarming.

‎Pakistan is among the three countries with the highest mortality rates for children from birth to the age of five. According to the World Health Organization, 245,300 children die each year due to inadequate health conditions.

‎According to a recent research report by a private hospital, one of the major causes of newborn deaths is anemia among up to 90 percent of pregnant women in the country. As a result, babies are born weak and have a reduced ability to fight diseases.

‎Health experts say that the shortage of maternal and child healthcare centers in rural and underdeveloped areas, along with reliance on untrained midwives, places newborns at serious risk. According to the report, only 45 percent of midwives working in primary healthcare centers in rural areas are trained.
