AMMAN — The Jordanian government on Sunday firmly denied reports regarding the evacuation of the strategic airport and seaport in the coastal city of Aqaba, contradicting an earlier security advisory issued by the United States Embassy in Amman. Government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani confirmed in a written statement to Reuters that no potential or active security threats had been recorded by domestic intelligence or defense authorities over the preceding hours. Al-Momani emphasized that both the transit hub and maritime port are operating entirely normally, dismissing reports of a disruption.

The official clarification followed a high-alert security bulletin published by the U.S. Embassy, which asserted that the critical infrastructure locations had been evacuated due to a “specific and credible threat.” While the American diplomatic mission did not provide granular details regarding the nature of the emergency, it strictly advised American citizens to refrain from traveling to the specified zones and to adhere to host-nation security directives. The sudden intelligence friction unfolds less than twenty-four hours after the U.S. military confirmed on Saturday that two of its personnel were killed and another went missing in Jordan following an Iranian aerial assault. The Jordanian theater has become increasingly volatile over the past week, with Amman repeatedly confirming that its air defense systems have intercepted multiple Iranian missiles traversing its sovereign airspace.
