KARACHI: DHA City Karachi has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first private entity in the city to generate and supply electricity for its own housing project, marking a significant development in Pakistan’s private-sector energy landscape.

The development is expected to strengthen DHA City’s energy independence and reduce its reliance on the conventional power supply system. By establishing its own electricity generation and distribution infrastructure, the housing project aims to provide a more reliable and efficient power supply to its residents.

The initiative also reflects the growing trend of large private housing schemes investing in independent energy solutions to address power shortages, supply disruptions and rising energy demands. Such projects can also explore renewable energy and modern power-management systems to improve long-term sustainability.

DHA City’s move is being viewed as an important step towards the development of self-sufficient housing communities. Independent power infrastructure can help housing projects manage electricity distribution more effectively while improving service delivery for residents.

The development may also encourage other private-sector housing projects to invest in their own energy systems and reduce pressure on the national electricity grid. With Pakistan continuing to face challenges related to energy supply and distribution, private initiatives in power generation could play an increasingly important role in meeting the country’s growing electricity needs.

The project’s achievement highlights the potential for large-scale private developments to adopt innovative infrastructure solutions and create more sustainable and self-reliant communities.
