ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday resubmitted a contempt of court petition filed by party founder Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, after addressing objections raised by the Supreme Court registrar’s office.

The petition concerns the alleged non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s August 18 order directing that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment and that weekly meetings with his family be arranged.

PTI had initially filed the contempt petition last week after Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical examination instead of being transferred to Shifa International Hospital.

The Supreme Court registrar’s office initially returned the petition on Tuesday after raising objections. It was later assigned petition number 8/2026.

Speaking to reporters outside the Supreme Court, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said he had met the registrar at the public facilitation centre and was informed about the objections.

Gohar said the party had addressed the objections and resubmitted the petition. He also called for the same bench to be constituted so the case could be heard at the earliest possible opportunity.

He maintained that the August 18 order had not been implemented and said PTI had requested an early hearing because of concerns over Imran Khan’s health.

Dr Uzma Khan separately filed an application seeking an early hearing of the contempt petition, stating that Imran’s health was deteriorating and that further delay could cause irreparable harm.

The application alleged that the government had not complied with the court’s order and argued that any clarification regarding implementation should have been sought from the Supreme Court itself.

The government, meanwhile, has filed a review petition challenging the August 18 order and has described the directive as discriminatory.

On August 21, Imran Khan was taken to PIMS for a medical examination and was later returned to Adiala Jail after doctors declared him medically fit.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the decision to take Imran to a government hospital rather than Shifa International was made because of security concerns arising from the presence of PTI supporters outside and along the route to the private hospital.

The Supreme Court did not agree to an immediate hearing of the government’s review petition or the contempt proceedings and decided to take up the applications according to the normal procedure.

Gohar said PTI wanted Imran Khan’s sister Dr Uzma and personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan to be included in his medical board. The party has also called for all recommended medical tests to be conducted.

He said PTI was currently focused on Imran Khan’s health rather than political issues and claimed that meetings with the former prime minister had been restricted for around 10 months.

Gohar argued that appearing physically well was not the same as receiving the medical care recommended by doctors.

He also questioned why Imran could not be treated at a private hospital, saying the party believed the Supreme Court’s order should be implemented in letter and spirit unless the court itself changed or suspended it.

Gohar further questioned the reported detention of Imran’s physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, who had gone to Shifa International Hospital. He asked why the doctor was allegedly detained for several hours when Imran himself was not taken to the facility.

PTI has now urged the Supreme Court to schedule the contempt petition for an early hearing and ensure implementation of its August 18 order.
