The fugitive who escaped from Karachi’s Malir Jail during the earthquake was found dead in Maari Pur Budhni Goth.
The police confirmed that Raza was one of the inmates who escaped the jail on June 3, 2024. DIG South reported that Raza was hiding at his sister’s house because he was afraid the police might raid his place.
He ended his life by hanging himself on June 4. Earlier, he was arrested in a drug-related case that was filed at the Eidgah Police Station on March 30, 2022.
Before he died, Raza made a video message. He said in the video that he escaped from the prison with other inmates during the earthquake. He reported that he was hurt while running and had to walk for a very long time after that.
For the unversed, on June 3, a small earthquake took place in Karachi. Because of the confusion, at least a dozen prisoners escaped from Malir Jail. At the beginning, it was thought that the guards were distracted by the earthquake and this allowed the inmates to escape.
