On Eid-ul-Adha 2025, renowned Pakistani singer and composer Ali Zafar released “Karay Karay”, his first song in the Shina language, as a heartfelt tribute to the rich culture, natural beauty, and heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan. The song celebrates the region’s unique identity and highlights its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant traditions.

“Karay Karay” is a collaboration with local artist Salman Paras, whose soulful voice adds authenticity and depth to the track. The lyrics, penned by Zafar Waqar Taj, evoke the spirit of Gilgit-Baltistan and convey a deep respect for its people and traditions. The song’s production and direction were handled by Ali Zafar himself, alongside his longtime creative partner Ali Mustafa.

The music video features picturesque visuals of Gilgit-Baltistan’s mountains, valleys, and cultural ceremonies, beautifully capturing the essence of the region. The appearance of Rainbow Chacha, a beloved local personality, adds a layer of cultural richness and familiarity that resonated strongly with viewers.

Shortly after its release, “Karay Karay” quickly gained traction on social media platforms, trending nationwide and amassing over 100,000 views within 24 hours. Fans across Pakistan praised the song for bringing attention to a lesser-known language and celebrating regional diversity through music. Comments highlighted the emotional impact of the song and Ali Zafar’s dedication to promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage.

Ali Zafar expressed his admiration for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in a heartfelt message shared on social media, wishing Eid greetings and emphasizing the importance of showcasing Pakistan’s diverse cultures to the world. He stated that the world needs to see and hear the beauty of Pakistan — a message powerfully reflected in every note and frame of “Karay Karay.”

This release marks another milestone in Ali Zafar’s ongoing mission to promote linguistic and cultural inclusivity in Pakistani music. Over the years, he has performed in multiple regional languages, including Saraiki, Sindhi, Punjabi, Pashto, and Balochi, earning acclaim for his efforts to bridge cultural divides and bring marginalized voices to the mainstream.

“Karay Karay” stands as a celebration of identity, a musical homage to Gilgit-Baltistan’s heritage, and a testament to the unifying power of music across languages and regions.
