ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have formally submitted the challan to the prosecution branch of the district and sessions courts in the high-profile murder case of teenage TikToker Sana Yousaf. According to the investigation report, 22-year-old Umar Hayat has been named as the primary accused in the brutal killing.
Police stated that the challan is backed by strong evidence, including key witness statements from Sana’s mother and maternal aunt, as well as a confessional statement recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Officials believe this evidence provides a solid foundation for prosecution.
Sana Yousaf, a popular social media influencer, was shot dead at her residence in Islamabad’s G-13 sector on June 2. The accused was arrested within 20 hours of the crime during a raid in Faisalabad, where the murder weapon and the victim’s mobile phone were recovered. Authorities revealed that the suspect had taken the phone to destroy digital evidence.
The police investigation revealed that identifying the suspect was a major challenge due to limited leads, but geo-fencing and CCTV footage helped trace his route from G-13 to Chungi No. 26 before he boarded a passenger vehicle to Faisalabad. Raids were carried out at over 11 locations across three cities to apprehend him.
Sources said the accused, the son of a retired government officer, had known Sana for about a year. He allegedly visited her home after a heated phone exchange in which he complained about being ignored. When she refused to come outside, he forcibly entered her house, leading to a confrontation during which he shot her dead.
Police described the murder as a “brutal crime” that sent shockwaves across the country and posed a serious test for law enforcement. With the submission of the challan, the trial of the alleged killer is set to begin soon, and investigators expressed confidence that the evidence gathered will lead to a conviction.
