KARACHI: The dengue outbreak in Sindh intensified on Thursday as two more patients died within the past 24 hours, pushing the provincial death toll this year to 31, according to the Sindh Health Department.

The latest victims include a 44-year-old woman from Karachi and a 13-year-old boy from Hyderabad, underscoring the virus’s expanding impact across both metropolitan and regional centers.

Sindh recorded 829 new dengue cases in the past 24 hours, including 419 infections in Karachi and 468 in Hyderabad, reflecting a sharp upward trend. With these new numbers, the total dengue cases reported across the province this year have reached 14,468.

Hospitals increase capacity as patient load grows

Health authorities reported that 245 dengue patients remain under treatment in government hospitals, while 173 patients are admitted to private healthcare facilities.

Karachi’s government hospitals have allocated 256 beds for dengue patients, and private hospitals have reserved an additional 165 beds to manage the growing demand for care.

Testing facilities expanded to meet rising demand

Diagnostic capacity has also been strengthened across Sindh. Karachi now has 34 laboratories conducting dengue testing — 12 government-run labs and 22 private labs.

In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are offering dengue diagnostic services, including 7 government facilities and 11 private labs, ensuring broader access to timely and accurate testing.

Health authorities urge preventive measures amid heightened risk

The Sindh Health Department continues to monitor the situation closely and is urging the public to adopt essential preventive measures such as eliminating stagnant water, using mosquito repellents, installing window screens, and seeking early medical consultation if symptoms appear.

Officials emphasize that early detection, timely treatment, and community-level prevention remain critical as dengue cases continue to rise across densely populated areas.
