Popular Indian influencer and political commentator Dhruv Rathee has stirred fresh debate on social media after strongly criticising the film Dhurandhar, claiming it spreads hatred under the guise of cinematic storytelling.
In a detailed statement shared online, Rathee argued that films carry social responsibility and should not be used to reinforce stereotypes or fuel division. He alleged that Dhurandhar crosses this line by presenting a narrative that, according to him, indirectly normalises hate while packaging it as entertainment.
Rathee maintained that cinema has a powerful influence on public perception, especially among young audiences, and warned that such portrayals can deepen existing social rifts. He urged viewers to approach the film critically rather than accepting its message at face value.
The influencer’s remarks quickly gained traction, triggering mixed reactions. While many users supported his stance and echoed concerns about responsible filmmaking, others accused him of politicising cinema and called for creative freedom.
So far, the makers of Dhurandhar have not issued an official response to Rathee’s comments. The controversy has, however, intensified the ongoing conversation around the role of cinema in shaping social attitudes and the fine line between artistic expression and accountability.
