The Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) has issued an alert regarding three medicines and imposed a ban on their sale and use.
According to details, major actions are ongoing across the country against the business of counterfeit medicines. The Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) has issued rapid alerts for three fake medicine batches and banned their sale and use.
DRAP stated that the Central Drug Laboratory Karachi and DTL Punjab have declared several medicines as fake, including Taskeen Dard Tablet batch 091 and Pain Nil Tablet batch 01.
The alert said that Leo Healthcare Lab and Hakeem Purana Dawakhana Karachi illegally manufactured and supplied these medicines and did not possess any pharmaceutical license.
Similarly, batch 251986 of the well known gastrointestinal medicine Duphalac Syrup has also been declared fake. The label of the counterfeit Duphalac Syrup carries the address of multinational Abbott Pharma Canada, however the manufacturer of Duphalac Syrup, Hi Noon Pharma, has disassociated itself from the affected batch.
According to DRAP, the use of counterfeit medicines can be life threatening and may also compromise treatment outcomes.
DRAP has directed its regulatory force to identify suppliers of fake medicines in the market and seize the affected batches.
At the same time, distributors and medical stores have also been instructed to be informed immediately so that safe medicines can be provided to the public.
