HIV Cases Among Children Rise in Sindh

HIV cases among children have increased in Sindh, with four more children diagnosed with HIV last week.

‎According to screening conducted by the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Nutrition, 12 out of 476 children tested positive for HIV, belonging to different districts.

‎In Karachi, 18 children at the Welika Hospital and 3 children at the SESSI Hospital were confirmed to have HIV last week.

‎Similarly, new cases have also emerged from Indus Hospital, the Infectious Disease Hospital at NIPA, and other health facilities.

‎Doctors say that HIV cases are rising among children suffering from recurrent pneumonia, fever, weight loss, and severe malnutrition.

‎Experts have warned that the shortage of WHO approved screening kits in smaller health centres could affect timely diagnosis.

‎It is noteworthy that by October this year, a total of 29 new cases had been reported in the province.
