A new variant of coronavirus, BA.3.2, named “Cicada,” is rapidly spreading across different countries.
Health experts say that the new coronavirus variant Cicada is capable of evading existing immunity and vaccines. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, its first strain was identified in South Africa in November 2024, and it has so far been confirmed in 23 countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been informed about this variant of the coronavirus. Scientists have predicted that this virus may spread much faster than previous variants, but unlike earlier strains of Omicron, it is not currently causing severe illness.
What are the symptoms of Cicada?
Its symptoms include runny nose, fever, headache, fatigue, sneezing, sore throat, cough, muscle and body aches, vomiting, and changes in the sense of smell or taste.
If you are feeling unwell, get tested. If the test result is positive, stay at home and isolate yourself from others.
