All-rounder Aamir Jamal and left-arm wrist spinner Faisal Akram have been released from Pakistan’s squad ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the move, saying both players will no longer be part of the final 16-member squad that will take on the Proteas in Lahore and Rawalpindi later this month.

Aamir Jamal, who has already represented Pakistan in Test cricket, and young spinner Faisal Akram were initially named in the extended 18-player squad as part of the team’s preparation camp. However, after internal discussions with the selectors and team management, both were released to return to domestic commitments.

The decision means Pakistan will move forward with a 16-member squad for the home series. The first Test will begin on October 12 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, while the second Test will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 20 to 24.

According to team sources, the adjustment was made based on current form, pitch conditions, and balance of the squad. Pakistan’s bowling lineup is likely to feature a mix of pace and spin, led by Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Abrar Ahmed, with support from Salman Ali Agha and Noman Ali in the spin department.

Both Aamir Jamal and Faisal Akram are expected to remain under consideration for future tours, with management emphasizing that the decision is purely tactical and not performance-related.
