LAKKI MARWAT – A heartbreaking incident occurred in the Sarband area of Lakki Marwat on Saturday when a mortar shell explosion killed five children — including four girls — and injured 12 others, most of them minors.
According to initial police findings, the children had unknowingly brought the mortar shell home and began playing with it when it suddenly detonated. The tragic blast caused widespread panic and grief in the area.
Rescue teams, police, and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the scene immediately after the incident. The deceased and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where several victims remain in critical condition.
Forensic experts are collecting evidence, and investigators are probing how the explosive ended up in an open area accessible to children. Authorities have yet to determine whether it was a leftover war munition or illegally stored device.
Locals and families of the victims have demanded strict action and raised concerns over the presence of explosives in civilian areas.
