Human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Advocate Hadi Ali Chattha, have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC), challenging their 10-year prison sentences awarded by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in a security breach case.
The couple filed appeals against the ATC verdict, which sentenced them to 10 years in prison each over allegations related to the disruption of security arrangements for an international cricket team’s visit to Islamabad in October 2024.
The IHC has assigned case numbers to the appeals, marking the next stage of the legal proceedings.
The ATC announced its verdict on October 29, sentencing both lawyers under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, along with additional prison terms under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code. All sentences are to run concurrently.
The couple has challenged the convictions before the high court, seeking legal relief against the ATC judgment.
