A new study has found that people who regularly eat ultra-processed food have a 41% higher risk of developing lung cancer, even if they don’t smoke.

Ultra-processed foods include items like packaged snacks, chips, sweetened yogurt, ice cream, and ready-to-eat meals, all made using industrial methods.

The study followed over 1,700 adults in the US for 12 years. It showed that those who ate more processed food daily had a higher risk of lung cancer, regardless of smoking or other factors.

Experts say it’s important to eat more fruits, vegetables, grains, and lentils, and reduce the intake of ultra-processed foods.

Previous research has also linked such foods to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and mental stress.
