The much-celebrated music reality show Pakistan Idol is making a comeback after more than a decade, bringing with it a brand-new panel of judges featuring Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, former Strings member Bilal Maqsood, acclaimed vocalist Zeb Bangash, and celebrated actor Fawad Khan.

Originally adapted from the British series Pop Idol, the show first aired in 2014 on Geo TV, drawing massive nationwide attention and thousands of aspiring singers. The inaugural season’s judging panel included Junoon’s Ali Azmat, veteran actor Bushra Ansari, and singer Hadiqa Kiani, with Zamad Baig from Lahore winning the title.

Former contestants recall the platform as a career-defining opportunity. “It gives you recognition and polishes your talent,” said Waqas Ali Vicky, a Season One participant, in conversation with The Express Tribune. He highlighted how the show provided professional grooming and encouraged artists to explore various music styles.

Another finalist, Rose Marie, described Pakistan Idol as a rare large-scale opportunity for local musicians. “Every artist dreams of a career boost, and this stage allows the entire country to watch and appreciate you,” she said, crediting the experience for connecting her to industry professionals that later offered her projects in drama OSTs, film songs, and commercials.

The program not only nurtured raw talent but also created a supportive creative community. For artists like Vicky, who did not come from a musical background, it helped build a professional identity and fanbase. “Your name becomes linked with the platform, people start following your work globally, and you stay connected with your audience,” he shared.

Speaking to Variety, Zoya Merchant, director at MHL Global—the company responsible for streaming the new season across five TV networks—emphasized the show’s broader vision. “Pakistan has incredible musical talent, and this platform will not only showcase it nationally but take it to the global stage,” she said.

Online auditions and casting calls for the upcoming season will be launched soon, with the premiere date expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Mumbai: Renowned filmmaker and talk show host Karan Johar has made headlines not for a blockbuster film, but for his dramatic transformation. The 51-year-old recently revealed that he lost nearly 20 kilograms through a highly debated dietary method known as OMAD—One Meal a Day. Johar, known for his flamboyant style and honest public persona, shared his fitness journey on social media, sparking both admiration and concern among followers. The filmmaker admitted to struggling with weight-related issues since childhood and said his decision to adopt OMAD stemmed from a personal commitment to better health. OMAD, as the name suggests, involves consuming all daily calories in a single meal while fasting for the remaining 23 hours. While the method has gained popularity among some wellness circles for its potential to accelerate fat loss and improve metabolic health, experts remain divided on its long-term effects. Many nutritionists caution that such an extreme dietary regimen may not be suitable for everyone. “OMAD can lead to rapid weight loss, but it can also result in nutritional deficiencies, disordered eating patterns, and strain on the digestive system if not monitored properly,” said a Mumbai-based dietitian who spoke on condition of anonymity. Johar, however, credited the discipline of the routine and a supportive health team for helping him stay consistent. “It wasn’t easy. There were moments of weakness, but I stayed committed. I feel lighter, more energetic, and confident,” he said during an Instagram Q&A with fans. The filmmaker emphasized that his choice was personal and tailored to his needs, cautioning others to consult health professionals before attempting similar transformations. As celebrity fitness trends continue to influence public behavior, experts urge caution and personalized approaches to wellness. While Johar’s success story has inspired many, it also revives the ongoing debate over the safety and sustainability of such dietary plans.
