July 2025 was the third warmest July ever recorded worldwide, according to the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. The global average temperature reached 62.02°F (16.68°C) 0.81°F (0.45°C) above the 1991–2020 average making it only slightly cooler than July 2023 and 2024.

While the western hemisphere, including the U.S saw slightly below normal temperatures, intense heat gripped Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. Turkey set a new national record at 122.9°F (50.5°C).

The world’s oceans were also unusually warm, averaging 69.26°F (20.77°C) the third-highest sea surface temperature for July. The North Sea and North Atlantic hit new records, and Arctic sea ice shrank to its second smallest extent since satellite tracking began.
