HYDERABAD – The initial post-mortem report of journalist Khawar Hussain, whose body was discovered inside his car, has indicated that he died by suicide, police said on Sunday.

Hussain, a young journalist associated with a private news channel, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday night along Hyderabad Road in Sanghar, Sanghar SSP Abid Baloch confirmed.

According to the medical report, the bullet wound to his head was caused by his licensed pistol. “So far, the evidence points to suicide,” a civil surgeon involved in the examination stated.

Police said they have gathered fingerprints, CCTV footage, and other material for forensic examination. Video evidence showed Hussain entering and exiting a local restaurant twice before returning to his car, where he remained for nearly two hours before the incident.

Investigators recovered one of the two mobile phones in his use, while the second is still missing. Authorities believe it may have been misplaced or dropped, and efforts are underway to locate it. The recovered phone has been sent for forensic analysis.

Police said the investigation is being carried out with “minute attention to detail” to determine the precise sequence of events leading to his death. Hussain had been based in Karachi for nearly a decade, working with several media organizations throughout his career.

The incident prompted immediate notice from Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, who directed the provincial police chief to submit a detailed report. Shah also instructed Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon to assign the matter to senior investigators and ensure a thorough probe.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori also expressed sorrow over the death of the journalist and urged authorities to investigate the incident. Both leaders extended condolences to Hussain’s family and directed the administration to provide support to them.
