The American Heart Association (AHA) has released its updated 2025 guidelines on hypertension, stressing early detection, lifestyle changes, and stricter blood pressure targets.

The new recommendations lower the target to below 120 mm Hg where possible, call for annual screenings for all adults, and highlight diet, exercise, weight control, reduced salt, and stress management as key preventive steps.

The guidelines also advise earlier use of medicines if lifestyle measures fail and emphasize health equity to address gaps in care.

Experts say these updates will help reduce risks of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and other complications linked to uncontrolled blood pressure, which affects over 1.3 billion people worldwide.
