Jalalpur Pirwala continues to remain submerged as floodwaters have yet to be drained from the area, leaving thousands of residents stranded and infrastructure badly affected. The situation has raised serious concerns for both locals and authorities, who are struggling to find an immediate solution.

Officials confirmed that a special committee has been formed to review an emergency proposal to cut through a section of the M-5 Motorway in order to redirect the floodwater. The plan, though controversial, is being described as the only viable option to provide relief to inundated areas.

According to sources, nearly 40 percent of floodwater from the Sutlej River is flowing into Jalalpur, making it one of the hardest-hit towns in southern Punjab. The continuous inflow has overwhelmed existing drainage systems, with local residents demanding urgent action from the government.

Authorities, however, have termed the cut on the motorway “inevitable” given the scale of the crisis. A final decision is expected soon after the committee’s deliberations, which could determine whether the strategic highway will be sacrificed to protect populated regions from further devastation.
