FBR to Crack Down on Social Media Show Offs Dodging Taxes

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a nationwide crackdown from October 1 against tax evaders flaunting their wealth on social media without filing income tax returns. Officials said the drive targets individuals who showcase lavish lifestyles online while ignoring legal obligations.

According to sources, FBR’s Social Media Monitoring Team has already compiled a final list of such people. These include individuals boasting about luxury cars, high-end motorcycles, designer clothing, premium watches, posh homes, and expensive jewelry. Many were also spotted posting videos of extravagant weddings, cash-throwing at public events, and lavish dining and travel experiences abroad.

To strengthen the operation, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has assisted FBR by verifying personal records and financial activities. The agency has gathered details of credit card and ATM transactions, travel history, and other expenditures to establish a clear picture of income versus lifestyle.

FBR has issued a final warning September 30 is the last date for filing tax returns, and no extension will be granted. Officials cautioned that those who continue to flaunt wealth online without fulfilling tax responsibilities will face notices, heavy penalties, and strict legal action.

The move signals FBR’s intent to bring social media “show offs” under the tax net and discourage the culture of unchecked luxury at the cost of national revenue.
