Punjab Plans to End Non-Academic Duties and Offer Financial Relief for Teachers

The Punjab government is considering a major policy shift to relieve teachers of all non-academic responsibilities, allowing them to focus solely on classroom teaching, according to reliable sources.

Officials confirmed that a proposal is under review to exempt teachers from administrative and survey-related assignments, including those linked to the Socio-Economic Registry program. The move comes after widespread criticism from educators who argue that non-teaching duties divert time and attention away from students.

Reports suggest that around 10 percent of teachers have already been exempted from such tasks through special directives. In addition, the government is weighing a plan to offer an allowance of Rs30,000 per month to teachers who may still be required to perform limited non-academic work.

Education officials believe a formal decision will be announced soon to ensure teachers can concentrate entirely on academic activities.

“This step will restore stability in schools and allow educators to devote their full attention to students’ learning,” a senior education department official stated.
