Legendary actor Jim Carrey is reportedly in talks to take on a leading role in a live-action adaptation of The Jetsons, with Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow set to helm the project for Warner Bros. Pictures.
According to multiple industry reports, Trevorrow is also expected to co-write the screenplay alongside writer Joe Epstein, with early discussions suggesting Carrey may portray George Jetson, the futuristic family man made famous by the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon.
The project marks one of Warner Bros.’ most ambitious revivals, as several attempts to bring The Jetsons to live action have stalled over the years. If confirmed, the film will reimagine the beloved 1960s animated series for modern audiences — complete with flying cars, robotic maids, and a retro-futuristic world filled with humor and heart.
A Nostalgic Return
The Jetsons, which debuted in 1962, remains a cultural touchstone of space-age optimism and comedic family life in the future. The original animated show inspired generations with its lighthearted look at technology and family values, and even spawned a 1990 animated feature, Jetsons: The Movie.
Jim Carrey’s Comeback
While Carrey had previously hinted at taking a break from acting, he has since expressed interest in select, meaningful roles. His involvement in The Jetsons would mark his return to a major studio production since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022).
Production Outlook
Though Warner Bros. has yet to confirm an official release date, sources suggest the project is in early development, with pre-production expected to begin in 2026 if casting negotiations succeed.
If finalized, the collaboration between Carrey and Trevorrow could breathe new life into a futuristic classic — blending cutting-edge visual effects with Carrey’s signature comedic genius.
