LAHORE – Renowned Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has landed in hot water after making controversial remarks about Karachi during a recent podcast appearance.
When asked if she would consider moving to Karachi for work, the actress immediately responded, “Astaghfirullah, never.” She went on to say that while she occasionally travels to Karachi for professional commitments, she prefers to live in Lahore or Islamabad.
Saba further stated that she would like to see all drama and film productions currently based in Karachi relocated to Islamabad. At one point, she was even heard saying quietly, “I don’t like Karachi.”
Her comments quickly went viral on social media, drawing strong criticism from fans and Karachi-based artists alike. Many users called her statements “disrespectful” and “insensitive” towards one of Pakistan’s most vibrant cities.
One fan wrote, “Saba Qamar said ‘Astaghfirullah’ for Karachi—how inappropriate!” Another commented, “She owes her fame to Karachi’s industry but speaks against it.” Others pointed out that such remarks fuel unnecessary regional divides within the entertainment industry.
Despite the backlash, some fans defended the actress, saying everyone is entitled to personal preferences about where they live. However, the debate continues to trend online, with Karachiites expressing disappointment over her choice
of words.
