Zhalay Sarhadi Demands Justice After Lahore Pet Market Tragedy

Lahore: Actor Zhalay Sarhadi has urged authorities to take strict action after a shocking incident in which dozens of animals were allegedly buried alive during the Lahore Development Authority’s (LDA) demolition of a pet market near Data Darbar.

According to business owners, the demolition took place around 4am, leaving their animals trapped under the debris. Disturbing videos shared online showed lifeless birds and pets being pulled from the rubble, triggering widespread public outrage and calls for accountability.

However, the LDA denied the allegations, claiming no animals were present at the time of the operation. The authority shared videos of its workers relocating cages earlier, though shopkeepers insisted that many animals were still inside during the demolition.

Social media users described the incident as cruel and inhumane, while celebrities and activists voiced their grief and anger.

Taking to Instagram, Zhalay Sarhadi broke down in tears as she condemned the act.

“Even if it was illegal land, it was your responsibility to evacuate the area first,” she said. “You buried speechless animals alive for no reason. This is unacceptable.”

Sarhadi emphasized that the tragedy reflects a deeper moral decline.

“Human beings have become the most evil creatures,” she said. “Animal lives matter too, and those responsible must face punishment.”

Calling for accountability, the actor demanded that laws protecting animals be enforced and the culprits be punished.

“Enough is enough. You cannot keep letting this happen just because you can,” she added, urging the federal government and animal welfare organisations to intervene immediately.

The heartbreaking incident has reignited debate over animal rights and government negligence, highlighting Pakistan’s urgent need for stronger animal protection laws and humane urban policies.
