Karachi: The West Zone Police have arrested a gang allegedly involved in selling calf meat under the guise of “mutton” to well-known hotels and restaurants in the city.
According to police officials, the operation was conducted on a tip-off, during which seven slaughtered calves were recovered. Initial investigations revealed that the suspects had been deceiving consumers for a long period by mislabeling large animal meat as small animal meat.
Police said the accused were supplying the adulterated meat to several popular restaurants across Karachi. Authorities have launched further investigations to identify and apprehend other individuals, including hotel owners, involved in this illicit trade.
Officials emphasized that action against those endangering public health through such criminal activities would continue indiscriminately.
Separately, the Cantonment Police reported that one of the suspects had also been supplying calf meat as mutton to prominent hotels in Peshawar. The arrest was made during a joint operation carried out in coordination with the district administration.
