PM Shehbaz Calls on Kabul to Act Against TTP

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday urged the Afghan government to take decisive and practical action against the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups, assuring that Pakistan stands ready to cooperate for lasting peace and regional stability.

Speaking at the opening session of the Inter Parliamentary Speakers Conference in Islamabad, the premier underscored that peace and stability are essential foundations for sustainable development, emphasizing that no nation can progress without ensuring its people’s security.

Highlighting Pakistan’s resilience in the face of repeated aggression, Shehbaz praised the armed forces for their professionalism and courage in defending the country’s sovereignty. He recalled recent incidents, including unprovoked attacks on the eastern border in May and strikes on Pakistani posts from Afghan territory last month, stressing that Pakistan gave a firm and effective response to both.

The Prime Minister warned that supporting the banned TTP would never bring peace to Afghanistan, calling on the Afghan leadership to choose cooperation over confrontation. “If the Afghan government takes effective steps against TTP and other terrorist groups, Pakistan will fully cooperate,” he reaffirmed.

The two day Inter Parliamentary Speakers Conference has drawn delegates from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kenya, Palestine, Morocco, Rwanda, Liberia, Barbados, and Nepal, aiming to promote international peace, sustainable development, and stronger parliamentary collaboration among nations.
