Jakarta: The Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued a strong alert, warning that extreme weather may persist across parts of Indonesia through the end of November. The agency said a blend of global, regional, and local atmospheric dynamics is fueling rapid development of convective clouds, which could lead to heavier rainfall, strong winds, lightning, and high waves.
BMKG pointed to the interaction of phenomena such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and atmospheric waves like Kelvin and Rossby, which are making conditions more favorable for intense cloud formation.
Officials urged communities especially those in coastal areas to stay alert and closely monitor weather updates. The warning coincides with the predicted peak of the rainy season, which BMKG expects to last from November through February.
