During winter, many people experience sore throat and irritation. The dry winter air, low temperature, heating systems and reduced humidity dry out the inner lining of the throat, making it sensitive and easily irritated.

‎1. Warm water and salt gargles:

‎According to research by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), some simple yet effective steps can help relieve sore throat. For example, mixing about ½ teaspoon of salt in 1 cup (240 ml) of lukewarm water and gargling 2-3 times a day reduces inflammation in the throat lining.

‎2. Honey:

‎Honey is extremely useful for soothing the throat. It not only relieves irritation and cough but its natural antibacterial effects help fight throat infections. Adding honey to warm water or herbal tea enhances its benefits.

‎3. Ginger tea:

‎Drink light ginger tea or chew ginger pieces with honey. Ginger has anti inflammatory properties and helps boost immunity.

‎4. Garlic:

‎Garlic has natural antimicrobial properties that strengthen the immune system against viral infections. Consuming roasted or raw garlic in small amounts daily can soothe sore throat and reduce infection effects.

‎5. Warm soup and water:

‎Warm water and vegetable or chicken soup help keep the body hydrated and speed up the recovery of sore throat.

‎6. Steam inhalation:

‎Take a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam by covering your head with a towel. Do this for 5-10 minutes once a day. It helps reduce throat irritation and dryness.

‎7. Reduce cold and dry foods:

‎Drinking too much ice or cold water in winter can worsen a sore throat, so prefer warm beverages.
