The sit-in staged by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi at Rawalpindi’s Gorakhpur checkpoint — in protest over not being allowed to meet the PTI founder — has come to an end. The chief minister later left for Islamabad.

According to sources, the decision to end the protest was taken after consultations with Allama Nasir Abbas and Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

It has been agreed that Afridi will return to Adiala Jail on Tuesday, while party workers will also be asked to gather on the family visitation day.

Sources reveal that the KP chief minister did not inform the opposition alliance beforehand about the sit-in. Nearly four hours after the protest began, he contacted the alliance leadership seeking assistance in managing the situation.

Afridi had wanted the opposition alliance’s leadership to formally announce the conclusion of the sit-in.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai told the media that the KP chief minister will approach the High Court on Wednesday morning regarding the denial of access to the PTI founder.
