Possible Health Effects After Stopping Ozempic

Medications used for diabetes and weight loss have gained significant popularity in recent years. One such drug is Ozempic (Semaglutide), which is used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

‎According to experts, Ozempic works like the GLP 1 hormone in the body, which helps regulate blood sugar levels, insulin release, and appetite.

‎Ozempic not only helps control blood sugar but also reduces appetite and slows the emptying of food from the stomach, thereby assisting in weight loss. However, some individuals decide to stop using the medication due to side effects or its high cost. In such cases, it is important to understand the possible effects on the body after discontinuing the drug.

‎The following four effects may be experienced after stopping Ozempic:

‎1- Appetite may increase again:

‎Ozempic helps reduce calorie intake by suppressing appetite. After stopping the medication, its effect gradually wears off, which can lead to increased hunger and cravings, making it harder to maintain dietary control.

‎2- Possibility of weight regain:

‎Research shows that individuals who stop using semaglutide or similar medications tend to regain most of the weight they lost within a year. Experts say that maintaining weight loss requires healthy eating habits and regular exercise along with medication.

‎3- Side effects may subside:

‎Possible side effects of Ozempic, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain, usually gradually resolve after stopping the medication, although these effects may vary from person to person.

‎4- Fluctuations in blood sugar levels:

‎In individuals using Ozempic to manage diabetes, blood sugar levels may rise after discontinuing the drug. Such patients may need alternative treatment options or a new management strategy.

‎Is it safe to stop Ozempic suddenly?

‎Health experts warn that stopping Ozempic or any diabetes medication abruptly without medical advice can be harmful. Diabetes patients, in particular, should consult their doctor before discontinuing the medication.

‎Experts emphasize that while Ozempic helps with weight loss, maintaining balanced weight in the long term requires adopting a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, and a regular exercise routine.
