70% of diseases caused by contaminated water; visiting PIMS feels like a political rally has just ended, says Health Minister

‎Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that 70% of diseases are caused by contaminated water, while Pakistan’s population increases every year by an amount equal to that of New Zealand’s population. In such a situation, it is impossible to take care of every sick person.

‎Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Lifestyle Medicine in Islamabad, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal said that when one visits PIMS Hospital, it feels as if a political rally has just ended. He stated that a single doctor is attending to around 200 patients. There are no primary or secondary hospitals, yet every year Pakistan’s population grows by as much as New Zealand’s. He added that the country’s healthcare system is in a deteriorating state.

‎Health Minister Mustafa Kamal attributed 70% of diseases to contaminated water and said that Pakistan lacks even the concept of sewage treatment. “How can every sick person be taken care of in such conditions? As Health Minister, I can say this is simply not possible,” he said. “We must think about the direction we are heading in. People are sleeping when it’s time to wake up and awake when it’s time to sleep. The closer we live to the natural laws set by nature, the longer we will endure,” he added.
