Dry weather persisted across Punjab, including Lahore, on Sunday, but a new rain-bearing weather system is expected to enter Pakistan tonight. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this new system may bring a change in weather across several regions.

The PMD has predicted rainfall in Murree, Galiyat, and various northern areas, along with snowfall at higher altitudes. These weather changes are likely to enhance the winter season in the mountainous regions.

The department added that during the past 24 hours, most parts of the country remained cold and dry, while northern areas experienced severe cold conditions. The approaching system is expected to increase cloud cover and precipitation in the coming days.

Minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday showed extreme cold in several northern locations. Leh was the coldest at 10°C, followed by Astore at 6°C, Gupis at 5°C, and Skardu, Hunza, and Kalat at 4°C. Kalam, Gilgit, Quetta, and Dir also recorded minimum temperatures of 3°C.

Seismologists note that Karachi has experienced several mild tremors in recent months, mostly centered around Malir and its outskirts. While these earthquakes are low in intensity and not considered dangerous, experts say they’re part of natural fault activity in the region. According to meteorologists, such small quakes often release underground pressure gradually, reducing the likelihood of a sudden major jolt. However, they stress the need for continuous monitoring to better understand seismic risks in and around Karachi.
